One World Hotel, a member of the renowned WORLDHOTELS – Deluxe Collection, celebrated its official opening on 28 January 2008 officiated by His Royal Highness Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj.
The new 5-star hotel strategically located in the heart of Petaling Jaya’s business and commercial district is adjoining to 1 Utama Shopping Centre, elevating a new dimension in service and quality standards providing unequalled amenities and facilities.
The evening, with a turnout of 1000 guests, was a glittering event in the grand Imperial Ballroom as distinguished guests of VVIPs, dignitaries, ambassadors, socialites, the country’s movers and shakers, media and the who’s who of the Malaysian society sashayed into the ballroom dressed to the nines.
The overall concept that brought the One World launch experience to live was “Inspire, Indulge, Impress”. Greeting guests and embracing them with grandiose at the foyer, a Hollywood Red Carpet ambience inspires guests with a touch of glamour where they were serenaded by soothing piano pieces while enjoying light canapés and wines.
Guests were graciously ushered to indulge in a presentation of an ocean of contemporary ballroom ambiance. The impressive white main stage with cyclorama screens acts as a backdrop featuring different images and live projections for strong visualisation at all corners of the Imperial Ballroom.
At an investment of RM300 million, the 20-storey hotel was unveiled by His Royal Highness Sultan of Selangor, Tan Sri Dato (DR) Teo Soo Cheng, Dato’ Teo Chiang Hong and General Manager, Mr. Ho Hoy Sum with an impressive launch gambit that incorporated physical performances, motion graphics and ambiasonic surround experience.
As His Royal Highness Sultan of Selangor stroke the Gong, it resonated into individual drums as it build up into an ambiasonic drum symphony complemented with spectacular fire works on screen at the end of the gambit, bringing the One World Hotel to live!
In keeping with the Malaysian Owned, for the Malaysians, Muhibbah spirit, within, the ‘Grand World March’ food presentation commenced while guests were greeted by a feast of culinary indulgence alongside a live Jazz band performance by the local Impromptu Band, a presentation of the One World Corporate Video and a convincing protégé performance rendered by violinist Elsa Laung Sangaran accompanied by her brother Rakesh Lawai Sangaran on the piano. The main highlight performance by Sheila Majid, the icon and one of
Malaysia ’s finest singing diva which needs no introduction, was the perfect finale to a magnificent evening.
